Years ago, I was in the play, The Rimers of Eldritch, written by Landford Wilson. My character was one of the pair of town criers, the modern day version of the Greek chorus. The beauty of this production was that I played Martha and became life-long friends with Carla Johnston, who played Wilma. As Carla and I moved through our lives with careers, marriage and children, in our regular conversations, we would often say, “I know, I saw!”
There are a lot of town criers currently in the square. I am searching for real connections. There are millions of great conversations to have where we can be curious and vulnerable, share knowledge, and ask thoughtful questions. Why is confidence perceived as bossiness and wisdom as witchcraft, especially in older women? With these conversations, I invite you into my journey, as we practice the practice of living life. I recently heard that “Your life becomes your monastery.” So welcome in.
Ann Starbuck is a Post Production Producer & Executive, as well as a Writer, Director and Actor. Ann spent the last 10+ years as a leader of Post Production at Netflix, managing multiple teams of Post Executives, as well as managing dozens of series directly for Netflix. Three of Ann’s favorites that she worked on are: Mindhunter, Glow, & Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Ann’s Post Production career began at HBO, where she worked on such series as John Adams, Boardwalk Empire, No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and Game of Thrones. Ann then spent 3 years on Black Sails (Starz) before coming to Netflix. After 20 years in post production, Ann is excited to be creating her own content again. Ann is also currently writing the memoir of her critically acclaimed solo play, Tiananmen Annie. Tiananmen Annie is a coming of age story, about Ann’s year in Mainland China studying Chinese, and where she worked for CNN as a PA during the Tiananmen Square Uprising.
